How to Buy Insurance for Ukraine Online in 2027 Without Mistakes
Buy Ukraine insurance online with the right passport details, dates and payment method. Follow a 10-day Lviv example, then check your PDF before travel.
You can buy insurance for Ukraine online in six practical steps: prepare the details, set the dates, choose a plan, enter the traveller’s information, pay, and save the policy PDF. The key is to make the policy describe the person who will actually travel and every day they will be inside Ukraine.
Before opening the form, have the traveller’s passport, their Ukraine entry and exit dates, an email address that can be opened on a phone, and a payment card ready. The contract is signed electronically with a one-time code during checkout; nothing needs to be signed by hand afterwards.
What to have ready before you start the form
The form is straightforward, but do not guess at spellings, dates or citizenship. The passport is there to copy details from; no documents need to be uploaded. Citizens of Russia and Belarus cannot be insured.
- The traveller’s passport, open at the personal-details page
- The date they expect to cross into Ukraine and the date they expect to cross out
- The traveller’s date of birth and citizenship, checked against the passport
- An email inbox that the traveller or buyer can open while travelling
- A phone number entered carefully
- A Visa or Mastercard debit or credit card, or a device set up for Apple Pay or Google Pay
Use the passport as the source for the name, including any hyphen, middle name or surname particle shown there. Do not substitute a shortened name, a familiar spelling, a bank-card version, or a transliteration that looks more natural in English. The name on the policy should match the traveller’s passport, not a booking nickname or workplace record.
One policy can include up to 10 travellers: the main insured person and nine more. Each person must be entered using their own passport name and their own date of birth, and the price is per traveller. If an employer, friend or relative is paying, keep the payer’s details separate from the traveller details.
Set dates from entry into Ukraine to exit from Ukraine
Choose the policy start date as the day the traveller crosses into Ukraine and the end date as the day they leave Ukraine. Both plans are available for periods from 3 to 180 days. Count the days inside Ukraine, not the whole journey from home.
Cover applies inside Ukraine only. It does not pay for care on the journey there, in a transit country such as Poland, Moldova or Hungary, or at home. As general travel-insurance advice, the FCDO transit-cover guidance says travellers should check that a policy covers every place they intend to visit, including places visited in transit.
Avoid a one-day gap at either end. If a coach reaches Medyka–Shehyni on 8 June and the traveller expects to cross into Ukraine that day, set the start date to 8 June even if they arrive in Lviv late that evening. On the return, use the expected date of crossing out of Ukraine, rather than the date a train happens to leave Kyiv.
Worked example: Noor’s 10-day Lviv trip
Noor de Vries is a fictional Dutch engineer travelling via Przemyśl for meetings in Lviv. Her passport shows the name “Noor de Vries”. She expects to enter Ukraine on 8 June and cross back into Poland on 17 June, so she selects 8 June to 17 June: ten days in Ukraine.
Noor does not start the policy on the day she leaves the Netherlands, because the cover applies inside Ukraine only. She also does not end it on 16 June merely because she may leave Lviv then. Her exit date is the day she expects to complete the border crossing out of Ukraine.
Buying insurance is an administrative step, not a safety measure. The FCDO’s Ukraine travel warning states that martial law is in place, Ukraine’s airspace remains closed, and there is an ongoing risk of harm from Russian attacks across the country.
For British nationals, the FCDO advises against all but essential travel to Zakarpattia, Ivano-Frankivsk, Ternopil, Chernivtsi and Lviv regions, and says travel against its advice could invalidate insurance. Check the travel advice issued by your own government before deciding to travel.
Choose Basic or Advanced and confirm the price
There are two plans: Basic has a sum insured of 100,000 UAH (≈ €2,000), and Advanced has a sum insured of €30,000. Read our Basic and Advanced comparison for the practical differences between the two plans before selecting one.
For Noor’s ten-day trip, she selects Advanced, which costs €17.84 per traveller. The calculator shows the exact price for the dates and plan selected, and the final price is confirmed in the form before payment.
Visit Ukraine Insurance sells policies issued through its insurance partner, PJSC "IC EUROINS UKRAINE", licensed by the National Bank of Ukraine under licence 22868348. The NBU public register allows anyone to check that an insurer is licensed.
Enter the traveller’s details exactly as in the passport
The form asks for the traveller’s name exactly as in the passport, date of birth, citizenship, email address, phone number and trip dates. Work through each item from the passport and itinerary. Do not enter the name and birth date of the cardholder if that person is not travelling.
For her policy, Noor enters “Noor de Vries” as it appears in her passport, her own date of birth and Dutch citizenship. Her company finance officer can use a company card to pay, but the policy remains Noor’s because it contains Noor’s details. If her colleague is travelling as well, the colleague must be added with the colleague’s own passport details.
Type the email address slowly. The policy PDF is sent to that address, usually within minutes of payment, and it contains the policy number, validity dates, sum insured, 24-hour assistance number and full terms. Use an inbox that can be opened while travelling, then check the spelling against the address in your mail app.
Enter the phone number carefully too. Keep the phone available during checkout, but do not assume that a policy for one group member can be reused for another. When buying for several people, finish checking one traveller’s details before moving to the next traveller.
Check these six fields before payment
Review the entries against the passport and itinerary before you pay. These are the six fields that matter most:
- Traveller’s full name matches the passport exactly
- Date of birth belongs to the traveller named on the policy
- Citizenship is correct for that traveller
- Email address has no missing letter, extra space or wrong domain
- Phone number is correct
- Trip dates run from entry into Ukraine to exit from Ukraine and create a period of 3 to 180 days
Then make one separate check: confirm that you selected the intended plan for the intended traveller. This catches a common group-booking error, where every detail is accurate but attached to the wrong person. Do not rely on a previous booking as a template without comparing it to the current passport and itinerary.
Pay in UAH and sign electronically during checkout
Payment is made on a secure payment page by Visa or Mastercard debit or credit card. Apple Pay and Google Pay are also available on devices that support them. Although prices are shown in euros, the charge is taken in Ukrainian hryvnia (UAH).
Your own bank converts the UAH charge at its rate. That means the statement may show an amount in UAH and a small difference from the euro price displayed in the form. Ask your bank, rather than the insurer, if you need an explanation of its conversion rate or any card charges.
If the card is declined, do not keep submitting the payment before checking whether an earlier attempt succeeded. Some foreign banks block payments to Ukrainian merchants by default. Try another card if one is available, or call the bank to ask whether it has blocked the transaction.
The contract is signed electronically during checkout with a one-time code. Noor checks that her name, dates, plan and contact details are correct, completes the electronic signature step, and keeps the purchase confirmation until the process is complete. There is nothing to print and sign by hand later.
What to do if your policy PDF does not arrive
The policy normally arrives as a PDF by email within minutes of payment. If it is not in the inbox, follow these steps before assuming the purchase failed:
- Check the spam or junk folder
- Wait a few minutes
- Email [email protected] if the PDF is still missing
Save the PDF and report mistakes through support
Open the PDF as soon as it arrives. Noor checks her policy number, validity dates, sum insured and name against the information she entered. She saves the file on her phone and carries a printed copy as a backup; the PDF can be shown on a phone.
If you spot a wrong name, date or passport detail after payment, email [email protected] as soon as possible. Include the policy number and explain the correction needed. You cannot edit an issued policy yourself, and you should not alter the PDF manually.
If the traveller needs urgent medical help while in Ukraine, call 112 from a mobile or 103 for an ambulance first when life is at risk. Then call the 24-hour assistance number printed in the policy PDF. The assistance service directs the traveller to a hospital that works with the insurer.
When ready to buy, use the online calculator and form with the passport and border-crossing dates beside you. A careful check before payment is the best way to avoid buying a policy for the wrong person or the wrong period.
Frequently asked questions
Can someone else pay for my Ukraine insurance?
Yes, another person can pay for the policy, but it must contain the traveller’s details. Enter the traveller’s passport name, date of birth and citizenship, even if an employer, relative or group organiser uses their own card. The name of the cardholder does not replace the details of the insured traveller.
Should my policy start when I leave home or when I enter Ukraine?
Your policy should start on the day you enter Ukraine, not the day you leave home. Cover applies inside Ukraine only, so it does not pay for care on the journey there, in a transit country or at home. Set the end date to the day you leave Ukraine and ensure the period is from 3 to 180 days.
Why does my card statement show UAH instead of euros?
Your statement may show UAH because the merchant charges in Ukrainian hryvnia. Your own bank converts that UAH charge at its rate, so there can be a small difference from the euro price displayed in the form. Contact your bank if you need to check its exchange rate or card charges.
What happens if my card is declined during checkout?
Do not retry the payment repeatedly before checking whether the first attempt succeeded. Some foreign banks block payments to Ukrainian merchants by default. Try another card if available, or call your bank to ask whether it blocked the transaction. Review the traveller and trip details again before making another payment attempt.
Do I need to print and sign the insurance policy?
No, you do not need to sign anything by hand after checkout. The contract is signed electronically with a one-time code during the purchase process. The policy arrives as a PDF by email and can be shown on a phone. Carrying a printed copy is sensible as a backup.
What should I do if I find a spelling mistake after paying?
Email [email protected] as soon as you find the mistake, including the policy number and the correct passport information. You cannot edit an issued policy yourself, and you should not alter the PDF manually. Support handles changes to issued policy details such as names, dates and passport data.
