Travel Insurance for Ukraine from €3.56 in 2027: What Affects the Final Price

Compare Basic and Advanced insurance prices for Ukraine, see how trip length and traveller numbers affect the cost, and understand UAH card charges.

Ukraine travel insurance prices start at €3.56 per traveller for the first 3 days on the Basic plan, or €5.75 per traveller for the first 3 days on Advanced. Your final price depends on the plan, the policy period, the number of travellers and whether you add the optional war & radiation upgrade at checkout. The policy is for medical care inside Ukraine only; it does not make the journey or the country safer.

This guide shows the published per-traveller prices for 7, 14, 30 and 90 days, explains how the daily pricing works, and sets out the card-payment details that can affect the amount on your statement. It also gives a practical way to compare a lower-priced policy from home with cover intended for time in Ukraine.

What affects the cost of Ukraine travel insurance?

The first choice is the plan. Basic has a sum insured of 100,000 UAH (≈ €2,000), while Advanced has a sum insured of €30,000. Both plans are available for periods from 3 to 180 days, and every published price is per traveller.

Next comes the number of days. The first three days have a starting price, then an extra-day amount applies for each day after that. Select the actual period you need inside Ukraine rather than comparing a three-day starting price with a quote for a longer trip.

Traveller count is the third factor. One policy can include up to 10 travellers, but each person is entered individually and priced individually. Finally, an optional war & radiation upgrade is available at checkout and affects the final price confirmed before payment. Nothing in any policy covers taking part in hostilities.

The security context should not be treated as a pricing detail. Ukraine remains under martial law during an ongoing full-scale war, and missile and drone attacks continue across the country, including Kyiv, according to the FCDO’s Ukraine travel warnings. Insurance covers eligible medical emergencies; any protection relating to war and radiation needs separate checking before buying.

The price formula starts with three days

Basic starts from €3.56 for the first 3 days, then +€1.08 per extra day. Advanced starts from €5.75 for the first 3 days, then +€1.73 per extra day. These amounts apply to each traveller, not to the whole booking.

In practical terms, the price is made up of the applicable three-day starting amount plus the relevant fixed amount for days after day three. A 3-day policy therefore has no extra-day charge, while a longer stay has an extra-day charge for every day beyond the initial three.

Use the intended dates, not an estimate based on weeks or months. If your required period is not among the published examples below, the calculator shows the exact price and the final price is confirmed in the form before payment. You can check dates and compare plans in the insurance price calculator.

Published price examples per traveller for 7, 14, 30 and 90 days

All figures below are total prices per traveller for the selected period inside Ukraine, excluding the optional war & radiation upgrade. They are useful reference points for a one-week visit, a two-week family stay, a month of work, or a longer assignment.

  • 7 days: Basic €7.88; Advanced €12.66.
  • 14 days: Basic €15.44; Advanced €24.75.
  • 30 days: Basic €32.72; Advanced €52.40.
  • 90 days: Basic €97.52; Advanced €156.08.

Compare like with like. A quote for one traveller for 7 days cannot be meaningfully compared with a quote for two people for 14 days, even if one advertises a lower starting price. Check the plan, the number of days, the number of people and whether an optional upgrade has been selected before deciding which price is lower.

The policy period relates to time inside Ukraine. It does not pay for medical care in Poland, Moldova, Hungary or another transit country, on the journey to Ukraine, or after you return home. Build any transit-country cover into your wider trip budget rather than assuming it is included in this policy.

What the higher Advanced price changes

The main financial difference is the sum insured: 100,000 UAH (≈ €2,000) for Basic and €30,000 for Advanced. Advanced is the higher-limit option. It also adds priority care, acute dental pain relief, fuller medication cover, ambulance, resuscitation, repatriation with full support and a premium assistance line.

Both plans include emergency in- and outpatient care, COVID-19 treatment, emergency dental care, emergency obstetric care up to 29 weeks of pregnancy, prescribed medication, medical transport and doctor call-out, hospital room and ICU, medical repatriation, repatriation of remains and a 24/7 assistance line. The decision is not simply whether to have emergency medical cover, but which limit and set of plan features fit your trip.

Price-conscious travellers may reasonably begin with the limits, then compare the published total for their actual dates. For a detailed benefit-by-benefit explanation rather than a cost calculation, see the plan comparison guide.

Groups are priced traveller by traveller

A policy can include the main insured person and up to nine additional travellers. This can suit a couple, family, volunteer team or colleagues travelling together, but it is not a single group premium. Each traveller needs their own name exactly as in their passport and their own date of birth.

For example, if four family members choose the same 14-day Basic cover, the published 14-day Basic price applies separately to each family member. Do not multiply a starting price or assume a family discount. The form will show the final amount for the people and dates entered before payment.

If members of a group need different dates or you are unsure how to arrange different plan choices, confirm the arrangement with support before buying. This avoids relying on an assumption about how a combined policy will be set up.

Why the card charge appears in UAH

Prices are displayed in euro, but the payment charge is taken in Ukrainian hryvnia (UAH). Your own bank converts that UAH amount at its exchange rate. Your statement may therefore show a UAH transaction and a euro-equivalent amount that differs slightly from the displayed euro price.

That difference does not necessarily mean that the insurance price changed. It can result from your bank’s conversion rate. If the final card amount is important to your budget, check your bank’s exchange-rate and foreign-transaction terms before payment rather than expecting the statement to reproduce the displayed euro figure exactly.

Payment is available by Visa or Mastercard debit or credit card, or by Apple Pay or Google Pay on supported devices. If payment does not go through, some foreign banks may be blocking payments to Ukrainian merchants by default. Try another card or contact your bank to ask whether it has blocked the transaction.

The contract is signed electronically during checkout with a one-time code, so nothing needs to be signed by hand afterwards. This does not change the price, but it is useful to know before starting payment with a card that may require bank approval.

Why a cheaper home policy may not be cheaper

A lower headline premium from your home country is only useful if the policy actually applies to your itinerary. Read the destination list and exclusions, then check whether it covers the full length of the trip and whether it has a maximum trip length or annual limit on time abroad.

Transit is another comparison point. A home policy may be relevant to care in a country you pass through, whereas this Ukraine policy applies only once you are inside Ukraine. Check the wording for every country on your route, particularly if you are travelling by rail, coach or car through places such as Poland or Moldova.

Official advice can affect policy validity as well as availability. The FCDO says that travel insurance could be invalidated if you travel against its advice, according to the FCDO’s travel insurance guidance. Official advice changes and should be read again before travelling. That is a reason to read the terms of any policy bought at home before treating its premium as a genuine alternative.

For Australian visitors, Smartraveller says “Do not travel” to Ukraine and states that “most Australian travel insurance policies won’t cover you for travel to Ukraine”, in Australia’s Ukraine insurance advice. A policy that costs less but excludes Ukraine or is invalid when you travel may provide no useful financial protection. Confirm unclear wording directly with the provider before buying.

Check the final amount before payment

Before paying, review the selected plan, policy dates, traveller count, optional war & radiation upgrade and final amount in the form. The final price is confirmed there before payment. Check passport spelling carefully for every traveller, because each person must be entered exactly as named in their own passport.

The policy normally arrives as a PDF by email within minutes of payment. Keep the PDF on your phone and consider carrying a printed backup. It shows the policy number, validity dates, sum insured, 24-hour assistance number and full terms, which are the details to check against the price and period you selected.

Frequently asked questions

How much is Ukraine travel insurance for 7 days?

For 7 days, Ukraine travel insurance costs €7.88 per traveller for Basic or €12.66 per traveller for Advanced. These are published prices for time inside Ukraine and exclude the optional war & radiation upgrade. The final price shown before payment also reflects the number of travellers entered on the policy.

Is €3.56 the full cost of Ukraine insurance?

€3.56 can be the full price per traveller for the Basic plan’s first 3 days if no optional war & radiation upgrade is added. Extra days cost +€1.08 each, and additional travellers are priced separately. Advanced starts from €5.75 for the first 3 days, then +€1.73 per extra day. The form confirms the final price before payment.

How is the price calculated for a longer Ukraine trip?

The price starts with the first 3 days and adds a fixed amount for every day after that, per traveller. Basic uses +€1.08 per extra day and Advanced uses +€1.73 per extra day. For a period not shown in the published examples, use the site calculator to see the exact figure before payment.

Why is the payment on my statement in Ukrainian hryvnia?

Your statement shows Ukrainian hryvnia because the insurance charge is taken in UAH. Your own bank converts the UAH amount at its rate, so the euro-equivalent shown on the statement may be slightly different from the displayed price. Review your bank’s exchange-rate and foreign-transaction terms if that difference matters to your budget.

Can a family buy one policy for Ukraine?

Yes, one policy can include up to 10 travellers, but every traveller is priced separately. Enter each person’s passport-exact name and date of birth, then check the plan and dates for everyone before payment. A family booking is not a single flat-rate price, even when all members travel on the same dates.

Will my ordinary travel insurance cover Ukraine?

Not necessarily: check the destination list and exclusions, as some policies exclude Ukraine or may be invalid if you travel against your government’s advice. Also check the maximum trip length, any annual time-abroad limit and cover for transit countries. If the wording is unclear, confirm it with the provider before relying on the policy.
